Food Division to Expand to Russell Community


Twin Valley Co-op has deep roots in the communities they serve. The Board of Directors of Twin Valley Co-op are pleased to announce that a new food store will be built to serve members in the Russell and area community. Construction will begin Summer 2022 in Russell. The food store will be built at the premises formerly known as the Russell Peace Park. A grand opening of the 19,150 square foot food store is being planned for the summer of 2023.

“We are confident that Russell and area will support this expansion. We have listened to our members regarding development in this community,” said Dwayne Moncur, General Manager of Twin Valley Co-op. “We will serve Russell and area with a great selection of fresh produce, meats, deli, bakery and excellent customer service that Twin Valley Co-op is known for.”

“Today’s announcement of the Twin Valley Co-op food store in Russell was motivated by a desire to serve the community in all commodities: Agro, Fuel, Home & Building and now Food” said Board President Mark Morton. “The expansion in Russell compliments our other three food stores in Birtle, Elkhorn and Miniota. Our solid member base in Russell shows us it is the perfect time to expand our Food Division.”

“This new build will offer the town and surrounding area a brand-new grocery shopping experience,” Mike Fulcher, Food Division Manager said, “where shopping local means you are investing in your community”.

Twin Valley Co-op serves 6,700 members throughout their trading area and have stores in the five communities of Birtle, Elkhorn, Miniota, Rossburn and Russell. The co-operative marked 93 years in business, as incorporation was in 1929. In 2021, Twin Valley Co-op had gross sales of $99 million, allocated $2.7 million on their 2021 patronage, and will pay out $1 million in cash in April 2022. Employing 170 Team Members during peak season, Twin Valley Co-op is one of the largest employers in the area, providing Team Members with competitive salaries, a comprehensive benefits package, and an employer-contributed pension plan.
