Schools recieve trees from TVC
May 28, 2021

Twin Valley Co-op cares about the environment. We are so excited to share our environmental initiative in which our local schools were the recipients of 450 White Spruce Trees.

We purchased the trees with the profits from charging 5 cents per single use plastic bag in our stores in 2020. When we started charging this fee, we identified that we would use the funds for local environmental initiatives... our first year is planting trees!

The Schools who participated in this program were: Birtle Elementary & High School, Miniota, St. Lazare, Binscarth, Waywayseecappo and Inglis Schools.

The trees were purchased from Prairie Shelterbelt Program in Sundre Alberta and arrived by Canada Post in two shipments. Our Admin team carefully packed and watered these little sprouts for transport to the schools, and the trees were delivered May 19th and 26th. The schools decided whether the trees would be planted on site by the students, while other schools sent the trees home with the students to plant at home.

You can see from the happy faces below, that the kids and school staff were very excited to be part of Twin Valley Co-op's environmental initiative. Thank you to the schools who decided to participate!
