Russell Home Centre receives FCL Commitment to Excellence Award

(Sept 10, 2021) — Twin Valley Co-op is excited to announce Russell Home Centre as the East Zone recipient of the 2020 Home Centre Commitment to Excellence Award.

On August 26th, 2021 representatives from Federated Co-op Ltd (FCL) presented the award to the Russell Home Centre. Doug Fosty, Operations Manager Home and Building Supplies (HABS) and Scott Reid Operations Advisor, HABS Winnipeg Region presented Crystal Michalchuk, Russell Home Centre Manager and her team with the award.

The Russell Home Centre team has worked toward improving their sales strategy for several years developing action plans to improve their overall operations.

In 2020, the Russell Home Centre team accomplished significant improvement in financial results including a sales growth of 21.7%. Location standards are consistently high both on the sales floor and in the Lumber warehouse and yard. The team aligns with FCL’s HABS division goals and objectives in key areas of: Team Training & Development, Operational Improvement, and Sales Improvement.

Dwayne Hohmann, HABS Division Manager for Twin Valley Co-op commented, “Russell Home Centre continues to grow in both hardware and lumber sales, and provides value to our members in the surrounding communities. Crystal Michalchuk and her team have worked together to facilitate team member training and build their location with a focus on customer service.”

The team works very closely with the other Twin Valley Co-op Home Centers’ shared inventories to offer market leading product availability, service and delivery. With specific focus on Lumber sales, they grew the Lumber category in a highly competitive market developing their contractor relationships and sales through their “Contractors Choice” program. They accomplished this despite the pressures of 2020 Covid restrictions and product shortages.

Dwayne Moncur, General Manager commented, “The surge in sales and members shopping locally at our Co-op locations during the past year is also an important reason this award was achievable. We hope all local businesses continue to benefit from the community shopping locally.”
